Danske Spil is set to appoint the former mayor of the Herning Municipality, Lars Krarup, as its new chair following a recommendation from the Danish Ministry of Finance.
The state-owned operator confirmed Krarup would take on the role on 3 June, coinciding with its extraordinary general meeting which is due to take place on the same day.
Krarup will replace existing Danske Spil chair Charlotte Bach Thomassen, who will shift to become vice-chair of the board.
Alongside Krarup and Bach Thomassen, the Danske Spil board includes six other members and three employee representatives.
The Danske Spil day-to-day management team will not be impacted by the change, with the national lottery operator continuing to be led by CEO Nikolas Lyhne-Knudsen.
Krarup also holds chair positions at Danish philanthropic association Realdania and Team Denmark – the national organisation that promotes elite sports in the country via funding from Danske Spil proceeds.
He served as Herning mayor from January 2002 until July 2021, during which time he also had a spell as chair for MunicipalityCredit.

“Danske Spil is a particularly important social actor, not only because the company brings together 1.9 million Danes each year around the dream of winning for the benefit of the community, but also because profitability and responsibility go hand in hand when Danske Spil leads the way for a more responsible gaming market.”
Earlier this year, Danske Spil reported a record DKK1.9bn profit for 2024 on the back of a growing online presence.
