The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has asked internet service providers (ISPs) to block access to two illegal gambling websites.
In the latest crackdown on black market sites, the Australian media regulator found AUWin and Spirit Casino to be in breach of Australia’s Interactive Gambling Act 2001 and have been operating in the country without the necessary licence.
Both AUWin and Spirit Casino hold a remote Curaçao gaming licence issued by the Curaçao Gaming Control Board.
Spirit Casino is also owned by Curaçao-based operator DAMA NV, which has had several sites blocked by the ACMA.
The operator had its RollXO platform blocked by the regulator in November 2024.
This followed on from the blocking of its Wanted Win and Jackpoty websites in Australia in the summer of the same year.
Since making its first blocking request in November 2019, the ACMA has successfully blocked 1,227 illegal gambling and affiliate websites from targeting Australian players.
This has led to more than 220 illegal gambling services pulling out of the Australian market.
An ACMA statement said: “Website blocking is one of a range of enforcement options to protect Australians against illegal online gambling.
“The ACMA is reminding consumers that even if a service looks legitimate, it’s unlikely to have important customer protections. This means Australians who use illegal gambling services risk losing their money.”
The previous batch of website blockings took place last month, with the ACMA ordering ISPs to halt access to Megabet Prize, Mega Medusa, TF2Royal and Casino Intense.
In March, the ACMA ordered the blocking of Hollycorn NV sites Crown Slots and Billy Billion, while eight websites were shuttered by the regulator back in February.
