Brazil’s Ministry of Sports initiates public consultation on esports

The Ministry of Sports, through the National Secretariat for Sports Betting and Economic Development of Sports (SNAEDE), has made available a public consultation aimed at gathering contributions from civil society, specialists, and other interested parties regarding the inclusion of esports in Ordinance MEsp No. 125/2024. This ordinance regulates the sports modalities and sports practice entities authorized for fixed-odds betting on real sporting events.

According to the Secretary of the National Secretariat for Sports Betting and Economic Development, Giovanni Rocco, public participation aims to ensure a regulatory environment that is updated and aligned with the best practices in the sector, promoting greater transparency and broad societal involvement.

“With the growth of the esports sector and its economic and social impact, we seek to understand which modalities civil society envisions for the ordinance and what criteria they suggest should be adopted. With the responses obtained, the Ministry can evaluate adjustments to the current ordinance to align it with societal expectations,” he stated.

The public consultation will be conducted through a form containing a series of questions designed to support the analysis of the feasibility and impacts of including esports.

The form can be accessed through the Participa + Brasil Platform and will remain available until March 5, 2025, via the link:
