Superbet founder Sacha Dragic is set to make a return to frontline operations with the CEE operator as co-CEO, EGR can exclusively reveal.
Dragic will serve as co-CEO alongside Jimmy Maymann who was named as sole CEO in January to replace former Paddy Power Betfair exec Johnny Hartnett.
Maymann joined the business in April 2023 as deputy chair after spending time as CEO of the Huffington Post and as a SVP with AOL.
Hartnett had replaced Dragic back in August 2019 as part of a succession plan EGR covered at length in an exclusive interview with the Superbet founder last year.
Dragic had moved up to become chair of the business when Hartnett took over before stepping down in February 2023 and being replaced by former Deezer CEO Hans-Holger Albrecht.
He had remained on the board but will now make the unexpected return to the Superbet C-suite.
Dragic’s appointment is one of four major changes to the operator’s top team, EGR can also reveal.
Former Meta and McKinsey head Albert Simsensohn is stepping up to become COO, having served as chief marketing officer since February.
He originally joined Superbet as COO for its Lucky7 Ventures arm in October 2023.
Additionally, current vice-president of product and data Andrei Dusu has been appointed chief product officer.
The former Google head of product strategy joined Superbet in July 2023 having co-founded automation platform Eversync.
Finally, vice-president of engineering Sameen Jalal has been chosen as the group’s new chief technology officer.
Jalal has been with the operator since May 2022 and counts previous experience with Wayve and Facebook.
Superbet has developed into the market leader in its native Romania, while it is pushing ahead with growth plans in Serbia and Poland.
The operator has also applied for a licence in Brazil and runs the Napoleon Sports and Casino brand in Belgium after acquiring it in 2021.
Speaking on his return, Dragic said it was the right time for him to come back as co-CEO as the business looks to tackle the next stage of its journey.
He said: “At Superbet we have always planned many horizons ahead with ambition and I’m pleased to see the progress and speed with which the team have been growing and scaling the business to meet this ambition.
“The opportunities ahead of us, however, are significant and so it was the right time to return to the business and also to further strengthen our leadership team with global platform and scaling experience.
“I’m delighted with the appointments of Sameen, Andrei and Albert who join an exceptional leadership team, and I look forward to partnering closely with Jimmy and the leadership team in delivering our strategy and growth plans.”
Maymann added: “This has been a year of significant growth in our journey to becoming a product-led company.
“Our regional strategy is accelerating at pace, as market leader in Romania, number one brand in Belgium, very strong growth rates in Poland and pursuing podium position in Serbia.
“However, alongside the growth we see in our Brazil operation, there is a more global set of opportunities that we will capture It’s clear that Sacha will bring a game-changing impact in returning to the business to help us to move faster to the next phase of our growth.”
