The Gambling Commission is actively seeking a senior manager focused on engaging with the industry as part of its initiative to enhance relationships with UK operators.

This role, offering a £52,000 salary, is based at the commission’s Birmingham office and allows for a hybrid working environment.

Applications are open until January 12, with the chosen candidate expected to lead interactions with operators to promote early compliance.

The job listing describes the ideal candidate as a proactive and passionate leader capable of directing engagement activities within the compliance sector. They will collaborate with major gambling operators to ensure that compliance objectives are met promptly, prioritizing consumer interests in their work.

Key responsibilities for this senior manager position include ensuring adherence to regulations, maintaining strong connections with key stakeholders, and developing strategies for operator relations.

Desirable qualifications include a knowledge of the gambling industry, while essential skills encompass leadership, stakeholder engagement, and managing multiple priorities.

Dan Whitlam, the Gambling Commission’s compliance director, expressed on LinkedIn that this role could significantly benefit the industry.

He stated, “Engaging with the industry is crucial for elevating standards and promoting early compliance. I’m thrilled to announce the recruitment for a new senior management position dedicated to this mission. The Commission offers a dynamic work environment, with numerous exciting changes and improvements happening within our operations functions. It’s an opportune moment to join and help shape the future of UK gambling regulation.”

This job posting follows comments from Gambling Commission CEO Andrew Rhodes in November, where he emphasized the regulator’s commitment to deepening collaboration.

During the annual CEO briefing, Rhodes remarked, “The Commission is not a large organization, so establishing regular, two-way interactions with over 2,000 licensed operators isn’t feasible. We aim to facilitate two-way operational collaboration and foster trustworthy relationships both between the Commission and operators and among operators themselves.”

He continued, “We have long sought a more constructive relationship with the industry. Our relationship management approach this past year is our latest effort to instill a cooperative work method at all levels. We are currently evaluating the pilot outcomes, confident in our direction.”
