The National Lottery and the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit, through Mexico’s Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF), have signed an agreement to prevent money laundering.
The institutional coordination agreement is designed to consolidate collaboration mechanisms and strengthen preventive capabilities within their respective areas of responsibility.
The instrument was signed by the general director of the National Lottery, Olivia Salomón, and the head of the Financial Intelligence Unit, Omar Reyes Colmenares, at the UIF facilities in Mexico City.
Among the main actions contemplated in the Agreement are the holding of inter-institutional working groups for the exchange of experiences and technical strengthening; the organization of courses, diplomas and training activities in the area of prevention and detection of operations with resources of illicit origin; as well as the design of strategies that strengthen the coordination mechanisms in the area of their competences.
According to a Mexican government press release, each institution will designate public servants who will serve as liaisons to integrate a working group in charge of monitoring the agreements, and may sign technical annexes that define specific operating mechanisms.
“With the formalization of this instrument, both institutions reaffirm their commitment to strengthening the national regime for the prevention of money laundering and the financing of illicit activities, in alignment with the international standards of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) and with strengthening inter-institutional coordination as a key element of the effectiveness of the Mexican preventive system,” the government announced.
