BC.GAME has decided to relinquish its gaming license in Curaçao, pointing to what it describes as a “growing unfriendly climate for operators” in the region over recent years.
This latest development in the company’s story unfolded with the business officially stepping away from its Curaçao license on December 5th.
Despite this move, BC.GAME assures that it still possesses gaming licenses in various other areas around the world and asserts that its global operations remain fully compliant with regulatory standards.
Last week, the company’s UK-based platform ceased operations. Visitors to the site encountered a notification stating that new customer registrations had been halted since November 14th.
Currently, the UK site is completely inaccessible, showing only an error message rather than any customer notifications.
Previously, BC.GAME operated in the UK through a white-label arrangement with TGP Europe. However, according to the Gambling Commission’s records, this partnership has now been terminated.
BC.GAME is the main jersey sponsor for Leicester City, a Premier League soccer team. The club still features BC.GAME’s logo on its jerseys and website at the present moment.
The company’s license withdrawal occurs just weeks after it was declared bankrupt in a Curaçao court. This was following accusations from a consumer advocacy group, which alleges that BC.GAME owes $2.1 million to its players.
The controversy surrounds the transition of BC.GAME’s ownership from its former parent, BlockDance BV, to SmallHouse BV.
In a public statement, BC.GAME explained: “While efforts are underway to update Curaçao’s igaming laws, the absence of adequate legal protection for operators, like outdated bankruptcy laws dating back to 1931, makes it easy for unscrupulous parties to exploit the system against legitimate businesses.”
The company mentioned it is considering acquiring licenses in other nations to ensure its services are “safe, reliable, and secure” for users.
Adding further, they rebuffed recent circulating rumors about their financial instability, emphasizing that BC.GAME is financially stable.
“BC.GAME’s global operations continue unaffected, and the company remains committed to meeting all its legal and financial responsibilities.”
EGR has reached out to the Curaçao Gaming Control Board for a comment on this matter.
