The UK Gambling Commission has made an announcement regarding the upcoming departure of Marcus Boyle as Chair, effective at the end of January next year.
Boyle’s term is scheduled to end on 31 January 2025, and the UKGC expressed their appreciation for his leadership as Chair through a statement on their website.
He assumed the Chair role at the Commission on 5 September 2021, succeeding Bill Moyes, who had been in the position since 2017. Initially, Boyle’s term was planned to extend until 4 September 2026.
During his tenure, Boyle has overseen the Commission amidst significant changes within the UK gambling industry and its related regulations.
These developments include the awarding of the fourth National Lottery licence, the progression of the Gambling Act Review, implementations from the White Paper, and recruiting a new Board of Commissioners.
Furthermore, the Commission declared it is “in a strong position and with a clearly defined path forward” following the publication in April 2024 of its Corporate Strategy 2024 to 2027, highlighting the main focus areas for the coming three years.
“The Board of Commissioners and colleagues at the Gambling Commission extend their gratitude for Marcus’s leadership, dedication, and contributions over the past three years, wishing him success in his future endeavors,” stated the UKGC.
Baroness Twycross, Minister for Gambling, remarked: “The past three years have been pivotal for the Commission as it advances with measures laid out in the Gambling Act Review and initiates the fourth National Lottery licence.
“I am thankful for Marcus’s hard work and service to the Gambling Commission and the public throughout his term and wish him the best in his future pursuits.”
