Merkur’s sixth state-licensed casino in North Rhine-Westphalia will offer 250 slots
Merkur Spielbanken NRW is pushing ahead with the construction of its new casino in Siegburg still fully on schedule. Eleven months after the groundbreaking ceremony, the interior design is now clearly coming into focus and is visibly gaining momentum. The opening is scheduled for autumn 2026.
During a tour of the construction site, those responsible provided information about the current construction progress and the strategic importance of the site.
David Schnabel, CEO of Merkur Casinos, said: “The fact that we are now entering the expansion phase at full speed only eleven months after the start of construction and six months after the topping-out ceremony underlines the professionalism of all the trades involved. Siegburg is a strategically important building block in our NRW portfolio, which we are implementing consistently and with clear objectives.”
The shell is completely completed, and the technical infrastructure is largely prepared. Among other things, a total of around 120 kilometres of cable will be laid – including more than 46 kilometres of network cables – and around 2,500 metres of pipelines for air conditioning technology will be installed. While the work on the outer façade continues to progress, drywall, floor laying and the concrete design of the future play and guest areas will dominate the interior in the future. Step by step, the casino is also taking shape atmospherically.
“It is impressive to see how the building plans are increasingly becoming a real place. With every construction progress, it becomes clearer what a modern entertainment highlight is being created here,” said Sebastian Kühn, designated director of Merkur Spielbank Siegburg. “Now it’s a matter of breathing life into this location together with a strong team.”
Parallel to the construction progress, the search for personnel is therefore already underway. Around 100 jobs will be created at the site. We are looking for both experienced casino colleagues and motivated newcomers who would like to work with the company to build up a modern entertainment offering with a pronounced service orientation.
“With Merkur Spielbank Siegburg, we are creating an entertainment offering with a strong regional reach. More than 4.2 million people live within a 50-kilometre radius. At the same time, we are sending a clear economic signal for the region,” emphasised Sven Fork, Managing Director of Merkur Spielbanken NRW.
The new building is also designed for future viability: a photovoltaic system with an output of 363 kWp, green spaces with a meadow orchard and e-charging stations for cars and e-bikes are part of the concept. With 230 parking spaces and its own bus stop directly at the location, the casino will be well-connected by public transport.
With an investment of over E35m, the sixth state-licensed casino in North Rhine-Westphalia is being built in the Zange II industrial park. On around 1,600 square metres of gaming space, a modern range of games with classic table games and around 250 machines of the latest generation will be implemented in the future. In the first full year of operation, about 157,000 visits are expected.
