MERKUR Casino has supported HerMove Fitness
Leading gaming company MERKUR Casino has supported HerMove Fitness with a £2,350 donation, enabling the organisation to deliver a 12 week fitness and wellbeing programme for women recovering from domestic abuse and trauma.
HerMove Fitness aims to help women who have experienced domestic abuse by giving them access to activities to help with their wellbeing, whilst remaining safe. The fitness and wellbeing programme enabled users to partake in in-person sessions, including mini workouts, mobility, stretching and breathing exercises.
The group also provides the option of a seasonal PaddleFit wellbeing session, which gives women the option to paddle board, canoe, or kayak. These sessions allow for further confidence building and social connections between those women impacted.
A user of the service said: “When you’re a victim of domestic abuse there is a lot of trauma that stays with you, and you often can find yourself feeling really low. Larissa, (HerMove’s founder) has created an environment of trust, and the experience has reignited a feeling of purpose and confidence that I have been wanting to build back up.”
“This programme has been an extremely positive experience, something to look forward to, and I’ve felt emotionally supported throughout.”
The funding provided by MERKUR Casino ensures that HerMove Fitness can offer transport, sportswear, equipment, and one-to-one personal development coaching sessions, all free of charge.
The donation was made through MERKUR’s community programme, highlighting its dedication to promoting social responsibility and strengthening local connections. By partnering with nearby organisations, the initiative seeks out opportunities to make meaningful contributions and enhance the wellbeing of community members.
Larissa Clarke, from HerMove Fitness Empowerment Domestic Abuse programme, said: “We are so grateful for the generous donation made by MERKUR and the positive impact that is has had on the group. We had ladies from three different referring local charities, all having experienced domestic abuse and trauma.”
“The funding has meant that these women can take part in the sessions, which include fitness, mobility, breathing work and stretching. Most importantly, they have felt emotionally supported and safe throughout the experience. One lady travelled 30 miles a week to be there at the session, showing just how much of an impact this programme has had. To support and see these women come together, and in turn build their confidence and social connections is wonderful to see.”
Since its launch, the programme, funded by MERKUR and voluntary donations from its customers from venues across the UK, has donated £291,541.54 to support 130 community groups and charities nationwide.
Mark Schertle, Chief Operations Officer at MERKUR, said: “We are delighted to be able to support HerMove and aid them their vision of giving women who have experienced domestic abuse the opportunity to better their wellbeing without judgement.
“It is great to see how much of a positive impact our funding has had in ensuring that the service can continue to help those women who have gone through such awful times, and more so, it is so important that there are groups out there that offer support and safe spaces to those in need.”
