Despite an ongoing federal gambling investigation, the NBA has been ordered to pay Terry Rozier his full salary of $26.6 million.
Following Rozier’s arrest in October 2025, the NBA decided to withhold his salary, arguing that the seriousness of the crime justified the measure. The NBA player was accused of taking part in an illegal sports betting scheme; more specifically, prosecutors believe he faked a foot injury during a March 2023 game when he was playing for the Charlotte Hornets.
According to the prosecutors, Rozier told a friend before the game that he was going to remove himself because of a supposed injury and wouldn’t return to play. The friend then sold the information to other participants to place illegal bets based on non-public information.
Rozier pleaded not guilty in December 2025 and filed a motion to have a judge dismiss the charges; however, a ruling on that request hasn’t been made yet.
The arbitrator’s decision came on February 2, 2026, stating that unpaid leave can be applied only in cases involving domestic violence or child abuse. Regardless of how serious or public the gambling allegations are, they don’t fall under the defined categories, meaning the NBA must fully pay Rozier’s salary for the 2025-26 season.
