The government of Kazakhstan is planning to expand the country’s legal gambling infrastructure and double the number of gambling tourists by adding casino zones in four regions.

Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports has proposed to open new gambling zones exclusively for international tourists to help attract bigger volumes of visitors. This is part of a broader plan to combine gaming with the country’s landscapes and cultural experiences.

The foreign-only policy will ensure that local populations aren’t affected by the increased international tourism and will additionally help keep a controlled environment to minimize potential societal impact and maximize economic benefits.

The current gambling zones of Kazakhstan are located in Kapchagay and the Borovoye Resort Area; however, the initiative aims to expand into East Kazakhstan, Almaty, Mangistau, and Zhetysu. The government believes this will improve the country’s positioning as a tourist location and make it an important gaming destination in Central Asia.

The casino zones are expected to contribute to the local economy by creating 500 new jobs each. It’s also estimated that between $4 and $8 million in tax revenue could be generated annually, with an inflow of tourists reaching 200,000 per year.
