The 2026 Open Championship tees off Thursday at Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport, England.
As usual, we’ll target our favorite players to bet among the favorites, sleepers, and longshots. We’ll also offer up our top prop bet to consider heading into the season’s final major tournament.
Tom Kim made us look good last week by winning the Genesis Scottish Open at 84-1.

Scottie Scheffler is the British Open’s defending champion.
Best Bet on Favorite to Win Open Championship
Matt Fitzpatrick (+1900)
Matt Fitzpatrick, who has already bagged three wins this season, appeared poised to win last week’s Scottish Open, too. Fitzpatrick shared the 54-hole lead with Robert MacIntyre and Min Woo Lee.
While he didn’t seal the victory, Fitzpatrick’s current form is strong heading into the Open Championship. The Englishman is also coming off his best effort in this event after finishing T-4 at Royal Portrush last year.
Scheffler won that battle, but Fitzpatrick most recently out-dueled the world’s No. 1 player to win the RBC Heritage in a playoff at Harbour Town.
Check out Fitzy’s stats this season:
- SG: Approach to Green (1st: 0.846)
- SG: Around the Green (1st: 0.533)
- SG: Tee to Green (2nd: 1.635)
- SG: Total (3rd: 1.642)
- Driving Accuracy Percentage (9th: 68.24%)
Fitzpatrick knows how to win a major tournament after capturing the 2022 US Open.
Best Bet on Sleeper to Win Open Championship
Tyrrell Hatton (+3500)
Tyrrell Hatton also comes into the British Open in excellent form. Last month, Hatton held off Jon Rahm to win the LIV Golf Andalucia event at Real Club Valderrama in Spain. He went on to finish T-7 in the US Open after finishing T-3 at The Masters.
Hatton is also a proven winner on links courses. He’s won the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship three times on the DP World Tour. If he hoists the Claret Jug on Sunday, Hatton will be the first Englishman to win since Nick Faldo in 1992.
Best Bet on Longshot to Win Open Championship
Matthew Southgate (+25000)
Another Englishman here. Matthew Southgate has competed in six British Opens, with his best finish of T-6 coming here at Royal Birkdale in 2017.
Last month, Southgate won his first HotelPlanner Tour event (a feeder series to the DP World Tour) at the Swiss Challenge after firing a 62 in the final round at Golf Sempach. Southgate, who excels on links courses, has three top-25 finishes in the British Open.
It’s probably a big ask for Southgate to win outright, but DraftKings offers him at +6100 to finish in the top 10, including ties.
Best Open Championship Prop Bet
Robert MacIntyre Top-10 Finish (+290)
We were on “Bob” at the Scottish Open, and he was in the mix with a share of the lead heading into the final round on Sunday. He finished T-3 and enters the season’s last major with momentum.
There’s arguably no better links player on the PGA Tour. The native of Scotland knows how to shape shots in the wind and rain after growing up in those conditions.
MacIntyre won the PGA Tour’s Scottish Open in 2024. The lefty also claimed a victory in the DP World Tour’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship last year on the Old Course at St. Andrew’s. This is a nice price for a top-10 that includes ties.
